my mum has had 2 gorgeous chow chows in the past , so i decided many months ago that is what i would try to make her for christmas , having never made a dog before , the pattern had to be done from scratch , after much thought i decided to make it a sitting dog , this involved having a belly gusset , something else id not done before , anyway after a few hiccups , i must say i thoroughly enjoyed the making of her , and my mum loves her to bits

after months of looking at the locline in its boxes , i decided to give it a go , it was a real challenge and took some working out as i went along ,lol , but im pleased with how they turned out

maple is 5 way jointed with locline in all his limbs , and his neck and spine

as i dont have a bear to show this week , im working on orders , i thought id show you a picture of dave , our clumsy daft cat , when we bought dave we were told he was a toy persian , i dont think so , theres nothing 'toylike' about our dave , he lands in your lap with a thud worthy of a housebrick , im told white cats with blue eyes usually have poor eyesight , which may account for his clumsiness , no matter , we love the daft cat

ive been very busy this week,i'm trying to be organised [not my best trait],i have two shows lined up,the hugglets winter bearfest on feb 27th will be my first show,and im excited and nervous
i'm also taking part in the online blooming bear show in march
so this week i thought id better start on some bears,usually i make a bear and clothe it all in one go,and it takes about a week
but i decided i'd make all the bears,then do all the outfits together later,and i was surprised
in a week ive made 3 bears!,its made me realise how long it takes to dress them,good job i enjoy it so much!!

well what a busy and successful weekend i had at the holiday teddies worldwide show,and huge thanks must go to daphne of back road bears for organising it
i sold 4 of my 5 bears,but am in talks about the 5th with a collector,so hopefully she'll have a home soon too, the bears went far and wide to usa and australia and uk
but one stayed home with me,i made him for the show,but just couldnt bring myself to put him up for adoption,so here he'll stay with me ,but he has no name,ideas anyone?

the last couple of weeks or so ive been bitten by the 'designing bug', sketching shapes and stitching proto types,this happens whenever i get comfortable with what im making

all this is going on while im making bears for the online bear show,[banner above] ,so ive been very busy,
but i have completed one new design, photos later, he will be available later today and im very pleased with him,he tugs at my heartstrings

my other new designs i will continue to plug at, in between making bears,as i find it exhausting, frustrating and exhilirating,its very tiring and can be all consuming,so i need to slow down at it a little,one step at a time, as i think my batterys running a little flat today!!!

we travelled down to camber on monday for our holiday by the sea,and yesterday we came home 2 days early,skye didnt adapt at all well to being away from home,she didnt get to sleep until 4am on monday night [tuesday morning!] so we were all shattered tuesday, we were up at 7am,we went into hastings tuesday,and skye moaned for the whole journey and had one of her blind panic episodes in the middle of town,these episodes scare the life out of me now,because i literally cant keep hold of her anymore,shes so strong now and shes still completely danger unaware,trying to work out whats wrong while furiously struggling to keep hold of her is very difficult,poor little girl
wednesday she defeated us,she just laid on the floor and cried,and kept 'chinning' me to let me know she wasnt happy, tantrums,hard work,people staring,no sleep we can cope with,but skyes tears and unhappiness we cant bear
i instinctively knew [as always] what she wanted,so we brought her home, and now shes happy as happy can be,and so are we
we did manage to get a couple of smiley shots of her on the beach,we took her twice,and she was happy to stay there for 30 minutes each time,so out came the camera :0)
on the bear front,i started a new design before we went, a smaller bear with more vintage style paw pads ,so now im able to work some more on it,i cant wait, thank heavens for bearmaking,it keeps me sane,lol

buying bits and bobs for the bears

shopping for my bears involves buying more than mohairs and furs,which is just as well because i LOVE shopping
from ebay yesterday i bought some creamy coloured and very supple leather that i want to try paw pads with

i went on a search and find mission yesterday at my local hobbycraft,and was delighted with my finds

i found stamps,inks,an eyelet setter punch and some dimensional butterflies
for my handmade tags

i found a rose needlefelting mold and the most wonderful book ,if i can master the crochet and needlefelting of these ,they'll make lovely embellishments,knitting i can do in my sleep

some wonderfully soft and fluffy yarn,and a pretty blue and wite gingham ribbon and
cotton lace trim,for a baby white bear i have planned

and lastly some girly pink and white gingham cotton fabric and some quite large pink flower buttons

for a fluffy pink bear in the making

i love shopping !!

well we finally gave in and accepted some help with skye,but on our terms,we have direct payments from social services,which are the best option as they let you control who your carer is,we settled on a lovely young australian lady,young enough to keep up with skye and sensible enough to keep her safe,shes been coming every other sunday,and now shes spent time with skye we feel confidant enough to leave her with her for a few hours,so we can do something fun
theres been lots of places we cant visit with skye,that our 20 year old autistic son is desperate to see,so tomorrow we are off to hever castle,where hopefully i'll grab some great pictures to share on here
it will be lovely to be able to write about something besides the bears
and one day i will tackle the question im asked all the time.....'autism , whats that?'

we've just booked a week away at the end of august,at one of our favourite spots, camber sands, its a real beautiful little town with the most amazing sandy beach, we're going with pontins,which keeps the boys happy with activities and night life, me and paul happy with the walks and prettiness and skye loves nothing more than the beach

we never venture too far as skye doesnt travel well,we're just lucky to have some wonderful coastal and scenic places fairly close to us, we cant wait :0)

just after christmas we had a horrendous bug invade our pc,it ended with us losing everything and having to buy a new operating system,thankfully all my photos were backed up on an external hard drive

i lost all the files for my website and havent been able to update it since,ive had to direct people to my blog instead

today we start the mammoth task of building a new website,my son did the last one for me,and he'll be giving me a lot of help this time

so hopefully within 2 or 3 weeks [or 4 or 5 .lol] i'll have a new one up and running,it will be fun ,and quite different to the last one

i've taken a leaf out of amandas book at pandy potter bears and nabbed myself a summer house,i got it for a bargain price off ebay [gotta love ebay],its a beauty 15 ft long with a balcony at each end
its in a bit of a sad state at present,but i can picture it all painted up pretty and light and shabby chic curtains,and the little window boxes planted up

its not really for me though ,its for skye,shes too big now for a playhouse but still loves to play 'house' so this is perfect

i have stashes of shabby fabrics left over from my quilting and doll making days,which i now plan to use for dressing the bears,i managed to track down some wonderful vintage baby patterns which i can either adapt for the bears or use as inspiration,i always wanted to do dressed bears,so now i'll give it a go

i'm currently making a bear from beaus' pattern,in a gorgeous delicate pink kid mohair,its too wispy to get so much of the chubby cheek look,but still has the same softer look i was after,i have some denser fabrics on order and cant wait to try those too

it's been awhile since my last post,ive been very busy,we.ve just spent the last 2 weeks re-decorating the living room,its almost finished,but we are also re-fitting the kitchen,and its just bedlam and mess!we were just going to change the doors,but kept adding a bit more,and now we're doing a complete re-fit,tiles and all,every time i empty out a cupboard i cant believe how much stuff was in it,theyre like the wardrobe from narnia,lol,it'll all be lovely when its done though

on the bear front,ive been busy behind the scenes,ive been designing a new bear,i wanted a softer look,more teddy-ish ,a rounder head,more gentler colourings of eyes etc,a more traditional shape body and limbs,so ive been drawing and stitching prototypes,and when im happy with it all i'll make a bear
i'm making a bunny for easter at the moment,hopefully she'll get finished this week,she was from one of the proto type heads,and im really pleased with her so far

i saw some first snowdrops of the year yesterday,so pretty,hopefully spring is just round the corner

after weeks of being back in my dark place,i can finally see light again,you'd think i'd recognise when it comes,but it always catches me unawares,ive taken medication for the last 8 years to keep it under control and most of the time it works and my little world is rosy,but now and again,rather than just a bad day,which everyone has,it persists

this time was the worst for many years and i think its because i tried to push the creative side of me too far,doing courses and in over drive on designing new styles,as well as trying to do all i have to do on a daily basis,the dissatisfaction i felt with my bears spread until there was no pleasing me about anything

so im going to take things easier and work on improving my bears slowly,changing little things,rather than going off on a mad re designing tangent

i think this is a more productive way in the end,and certainly a lot kinder on yourself

today i feel better,im happy with my bears and my life,and almost feel ready to start sewing again,long may it last!!

i am still trying to create the bear in my head,15 heads discarded so far,and number 16 has 8 peices,im nothing if not determined!!
